INGHAM 2CINGHAM 2C

The Ingham Conservation District is a partner in the Upper Grand River Implementation Project (UGRIP).  This project is designed to reduce erosion and sedimentation and to improve overall water quality in key areas of the Upper Grand River Watershed.  The Huntoon Creek Sub-basin is one of these key areas due to problems with off-field soil loss, nitrate-nitrite pollution, loss of wetlands and lack of sufficient buffer zones along its waterways.  The Ingham Conservation District is working with landowners in the Huntoon Creek Sub-basin to make them aware of government programs that are available to help alleviate some of these problems.  Events such as the Huntoon Creek Cleanup will help raise awareness about the health of the watershed and give volunteers a way to help make a difference.  The UGRIP is a collective effort of nearly 30 organizations within the watershed.  Please visit www.theugrip.org for a full list of partners, information on activities and events within the watershed and to find out more ways you can get involved.

The UGRIP has been funded in part by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality’s Non-Point Source Program under project #2008-0026.
